Modified Metabolosome which produces OxyToxy NT , an agent that can be fired as a toxic projectile. Inferior version of the Toxin Vacuole.
Requirements
If organelle upgrades are enabled in game settings, the following condition must be true for the player cell:
- Has engulfed at least 5 cells throughout the game so far.
Processes
OxyToxy Synthesis: ATP + Oxygen → OxyToxy NT
Produces OxyToxy NT , but much less efficiently than Toxin Vacuoles. Rate scales with the amount of environmental Oxygen .
Glycolysis: Glucose → ATP
Like many prokaryotic organelles, the Cytoplasm surrounding an Toxisome performs a less efficient form of Glycolysis, transforming Glucose into ATP .
Modifications
No modifications.
Effects
If a cell has at least one Toxisome or Toxin Vacuole, it can shoot toxin projectiles, draining stored OxyToxy NT to do so. These projectiles damage cells of other species, but don't harm members of the species that fired them.
Damage scales with the amount of Oxytoxy NT fired.
Upgrades
No upgrades.
Strategy
Toxins are a valuable weapon in cellular combat. They are currently the only method of ranged attack in the game, with engulfment and Perforator Pili more akin to melee weapons.
The Toxisome and its eukaryotic counterpart the Toxin Vacuole are also useful for defensive purposes. A cell which engulfs another cell that has either of these organelles takes damage as its prey digests, which can act as a deterrent to larger predators.
