In the Macroscopic Stage, your colony of cells will turn into a blob of tissue types that exisit ina 3D environment. The stage ends when your creature first develops a certain level of sentience.
Overview
Life in the oceans flourishes. There will be a lot of diversity. The world has suddenly gotten a lot bigger for the player.
The player will now control a proper creature made up of tissue. The scale starts from the centimeter scale and goes up from there. Individual cells are no longer visible or simulated in this stage.
Transitions
The stage starts when a multicellular cell colony becomes big enough to be able to transition to being a collection of tissues. Currently this is planned to happen around size of 20 cells.
It ends when the player's species evolves a nervous system (that is complex enough).
Features
In this stage the player continues to be able to edit cell types, but instead of placing them in a cell bodyplan, the cell types are now used as blobs of tissue, which are placed in the fully 3D macroscopic body plan editor. The editor is based on placing and editing metaballs that represent the structure of the species.
The player becomes a macroscopic creature. This shifts the game's scale so that microbes are no longer visible and the player moves onto sculpting tissues instead of placing individual cells.
There is a separate page for the Macroscopic Stage GDD describing the stage mechanics in more details.
