The planet on which your species resides is a vast place with many different environments and biomes. In the Microbe Stage this is represented via Patches and Regions on the Patch Map.

The Patch Map

The Patch Map is a representation of your planet. It is comprised of Patches and Regions (explained below). Each region contains multiple connected (or adjacent) patches and is connected to other regions.

Fog Of War

Fog of War is a game setting which can be enabled, which limits which patches the player can preview.

When set to regular, only patches to which the player has been, as well as any adjacent patches will be visible. While patches adjacent to those are visible on the map, but their type, compound information and Environmental Conditions are hidden.

When set to intense, only patches to which the player has been will be visible. Adjacent patches will be visible but will have hidden type and compound information

Patches

Patches represent distinct biomes with different environments. Each patch has different Environmental Conditions and Compounds, which can affect which processes can take place and with what efficiency. During each Editor Session, you can move to any adjacent patch or to any patch with your species in it.

Patches also contain populations of other species, which can migrate between patches and serve as competition for the player. Be sure to check for predators and prey when moving between patches.
