Nerve fibres between neurons, available from the Macroscopic Stage. Required to increase an organism's brain power and progress to future stages.
Requirements
Only available from the Macroscopic Stage onwards.
Processes
No processes.
Modifications
No modifications.
Effects
For each cell in a multicellular organism that contains an Axon, that organism's brain power increases proportionally to the volume of that cell. Cells with Axons are classified as having brain tissue type.
When brain power exceeds +0.5, the player enters the Aware Stage. When brain power exceeds +5.0, the player enters the Awakening Stage.
Upgrades
No upgrades.
Strategy
Adding Axons is essential for reaching future stages. We recommend adding one Axon to several cell types in your multicellular organism, but adding more than one is redundant. At the moment, further Axons provide no extra benefit.
Scientific Background
The Axon is a long, thin projection from a "Neuron Cell" to another cell, either another "Neuron" cell or to a "Muscle" cell, amongst many other cell types, and permits the passage of information in the form of electrical signals between two or more cells. This in turn allows a creature to respond to external stimuli, such as a sudden increase in temperature, or being scratched, or even a bed smell hitting some sensory cells.
